Aloe rudikoppe, commonly known as ‘Little Gem’ Aloe, is perhaps the single most important introduction to “landscaping with succulents” in this decade! With red-orange flowers like a compact Kniphofia, and beautiful, low-growing, lush green triangular leaves, it thrives in full sun or complete north exposure shade. It tolerates water conditions from substantial regular garden watering to very dry conditions.
Unlike most Aloe species that just bloom for a very short time, usually between late winter and early spring, ’Little Gem’ blooms ALL YEAR ROUND on the California coastal plain. Arizona and low desert locations will see this species stop blooming during the hottest summer months.
